Fluency in Data Communication

Fluentic is developing data-centric connectivity solutions that enable easy interconnection in local networking environments such as edge-clouds, factory networks, home and vehicular networks. Fluentic’s solutions will enable edge-cloud interconnection, e.g., making data and in-network functionality available to cloud-based application logic and vice versa.


Fluentic’s networked services and connectivity solutions span different environments from local, collaborative D2D communications, to device-to-Access Point (AP) data scheduling and sharing and further to (personal) edge-cloud interconnection environments. Example solution areas include:

    • smart, local home gateways to facilitate neighbourhood data sharing and to host personal IoT clouds;
    • vehicle-to-roadside AP communications to support telemetry applications for autonomous vehicles and entertainment applications for connected cars; and
    • secure data sharing in smart city environments, providing capabilities for data re-use between different service providers and users, which enables the creation of new eco systems and service

Fluentic’s solutions will empower users to take control of data generated by their devices, in their environment and in the public domain and enable them to combine data and functions in a number of new ways. Data security is a first-order service, i.e. users can exert fine-granular and persistent control with respect to access rights and data privacy.


Our networked services solutions are not restricted to static content delivery only, but mainly include the execution of networked functions.


Fluentic’s solutions put the spotlight on the services themselves by addressing service entities directly, without the need for intermediaries and server silos. Addressing comes in the form of names and, therefore, the focus of our solutions is a named service object. Therefore instead of relying on specific IP-addressed end-hosts to execute a service, named service objects can be acted upon and/or be executed by any node that runs our software. In a home networking environment, for instance, sensors and actuators can be located and accessed through a universal name-based forwarding abstraction. Users can create and make available new application functions, for example to customize and automate behaviour.


Picture this, as an example: information availability in local devices (e.g. smartphones) is currently hidden behind the IP address of the device. Instead, in a named service object environment, smartphone apps individually advertise their own prefixes to nearby devices, instead of the IP of the device. A powerful API can sync between individual applications transparently, building the basis for a scalable and extensible IoT platform.


A fundamental feature of Fluentic’s solutions is the smart connectivity service, i.e. when connecting clouds, for example, a moving vehicle to its counterpart application logic in a data centre, Fluentic technology (e.g. smart prefetching, caching and transmission scheduling) ensures optimal data availability and high performance.
